A major focus of the Health & Safety Council of Strafford County's work is planning for public health emergencies. Public health emergencies affect the health of the public and require a broad community response.
Examples of public health emergencies include:
- Influenza epidemics/pandemics
- Salmonella or E.coli outbreaks and other wide-spread contaminations
- Chemical, biological, and radioactive exposures that result from natural, accidental, and terrorism-related events
- High numbers of displaced or injured persons following a disaster
